Southwind Blows / Other Voices | Royal Albert Hall Céiliúradh

Southwind Blows and Other Voices are two of Ireland’s most respected cultural producers. In 2014, they curated Céiliúradh at the Royal Albert Hall, a celebration of Irish music and culture to mark President Michael D. Higgins’s state visit to Britain, with Glen Hansard, Imelda May, The Gloaming, Paul Brady, and Elvis Costello among the artists on the bill.
They approached me to collaborate on the finale. I created a choir of community voices, drawn from the Irish community in London, for the closing moment. A wonderful collaboration with the Other Voices team, the artists, and choir-leader and arranger Richard Swan.
The choir’s presence, voices from the community itself, gave the finale a real and moving connection to the people the night was made for.
